Default Anyone else have this problem? (Ad-aware)

When i change my home page to about:blank adaware says its malware and changes it to msn.com.

If i then scan nothing comes up, but if i change it back to about:blank adaware wants to change it back to msn.com

Just to clarify... You are manually changing your browser page to the real blank page (aka. about:blank), not that you are being hijacked by the spyware of the same name, and Ad-aware (Ad-watch?) is aletring and changing it back to a previous msn.com page?

So you aren't asking about a hijack, but rather how to set Ad-aware to not override your settings?

Yes i am manually changing it to about:blank.

But when i do this ad-aware says im infected, and when i delete the infect file it changes it to msn.com.

Possible browser hijack attempt : Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MainStart Pageabout:blank

Possible Browser Hijack attempt Object recognized!
Type : RegData
Data : "about:blank"
Rootkey : HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Object : Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value : Start Page
Data : "about:blank"

this is what the logfile says it is

It sounds like a bug in Ad-aware to me, but I don't use it so I can't say for sure. I'll move this thread to Privacy Software and perhaps someone who knows will reply.

Hey m289,

As you may know there is a browser highjacker called CoolWebSearch(CWS) that is tearing up alot of users machines and one of the variants of a CWS highjack deals with about:blank. You can read more about what Lavasoft\Adaware has to say about the about:blank....and in your case a false positive....in the below Lavasoft Knowledge Base Article 04051801.

This link---> about:blank Presented By Ad-aware

Code:
RESOLUTION Users that knowingly have about:blank set as their homepage, and have no issues with a homepage hijack, can prevent this item from being presented on future scans by checking the box next to listings indicating about:blank, then right-clicking one of the checked items, and then choosing "Add selection toignorelist."
