Hi Acadia,
What page have you been using to try and get the update? Here is the recommended download link from the original release posting at the Lavasoft board. Quote:

Yes, that's the link and it is indeed working now. It must have been down just for a short while. Thank you.

Hi!
The release applies only to the freeware version. What about the Pro version? I thought the paid version should be out prior to the free version? ![]() |

Yes, Marianna is correct.
Paid [PLUS] users were sent an email...This is what I received: New in 0181: · Speed - More comprehensive and up to 400% faster than any previous 6x release. · Smart scan mode - Improves speed even further and has been optimized to detect content at the root level enabling fast and efficient maintenance scanning. · Improved In-depth scan - More effective while reducing CPU resources. · Improved deep registry scan - Faster with additional registry coverage that can detect dynamically created registry keys. · Conditional scanning - Improving speed by allowing Ad-aware to decide when and where additional scanning is needed based on a previous detection during the scanning process. · HOSTS file scanning - Now Ad-aware has the ability to scan, backup, remove, and restore known references from your HOSTS file. · More efficient reference file usage - Ad-aware can now read and use more detailed information stored in the reference file. · Improved Browser Hijacker detection - Better detection for known and newly discovered Browser Hijackers. · Improved log file output - More comprehensive reporting for better record keeping. You have two options to update your copy of Ad-aware A zip-archive for this update has been made available to you, which includes the core file, and the latest reference file. To install the update from the zip-archive, follow these steps: http://www.lavasoft.de/res/aplus/aaw6plus.zip Please enter the following username + password: Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Click the above link to download the file, choose "save target as". Save the file on your desktop It is essential that you close Ad-aware and Ad-watch. Unzip the archive and copy all included files into your Ad-aware folder. Restart Ad-aware If you are not comfortable with the above please proceed with the following: Remember when using this option you will have to uninstall Ad-aware. It is Important to remember that before you proceed with uninstalling your current copy of Ad-aware, it is essential that you shut down or close Ad-watch prior. To download your copy of Ad-aware please use this link: http://www.lavasoft.de/res/aplus/aaw6plus.exe Now, apparently if you have an old Username and Password from the last 161 update, you can still get it from above addy by just putting in those, and it will give it to you, according to a post at the site As for the claims above re the improved speed, believe it, it's amazingly fast now. I had tested it and "thought" it was well under 2 minutes in scanning [complete HHD], as opposed to the usual 4-6 mins, especially in the System32.dll cache files. Well I have since timed it, scanned around 4 times at different times and each time the scan took around 45-50 seconds. GREAT! Cheers, TAS.

LOL... Precisely solar, precisely... Spybot tells me each time my system is clean, but when I then run AdAware, it finds at least 2-3 cookies [RedSherriff being 2 of them] that Spybot did not. This has always been the case for me since AdAware made it's comeback, with build 161 However, it does not alter the fact I will continue to run BOTH. Cheers, TAS

ty some guy. I have been using another browser (mozilla ) but have utilised proximitron and the list for that . however it is an interesting observation that spybot does not recognise it as a problem because i sure find it a nuisance as do many others . i changed my IP server because they were freely using it upon all there clients . (xtra.co.nz )

solarpowered candle,I don't know which "list" you mean but I use Bill Webb's Sheriff filters in Proxo, if you are getting cookies from them make sure the "URL-Killer: kill-a-URL (out)" header filter is enabled and enter *imrworldwide.com/ in the adlist-URL Killfile as a second line of defence to completely cut off all contact with the Sheriff servers, that should put an end to their cookies and everything else from them.

hello some guy ty for your reply. I too had been following the thread at spyware forums since its early days as red sherriff was a problem back then also for me . Currently I noticed it again on my system . This is due to the school holidays here and lots of new programmes on my system including internet explorer and for some reason , not using proximitron . So I found a nice bunch of new red sherriff cookies to try the new version of Ad Aware on. It was just interesting to run "spybot search n destroy " first as it does not pick up on such . Where as Ad- Aware does . This is my question "Why doesnt it" I use web filter also when using proxomitron http://www.cexx.org/sheriff.cfg
which "hogties " the red sheriff Thanks for your help. |
