Default Blaster vs. Guard - the difference?

Hi, I was a little unsure about what the difference between SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster was? Can anyone help/explain? Thanks.

Hello Non-Brand Name,

SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster are rather different products, but, using them together increases your protection against spyware because they work very differently.

SpywareGuard is a resident scanner (similar in a way to an anti-virus scanner) which proactively scans executable files prior to them being executed - looking for spyware installation kits. It scans these programs with both known signatures and some general protection techniques. It will warn you if a program you've started is going to attempt to install known spyware.

SpywareBlaster is a preventative program. It sets flags in your registry to prevent the running of a specific list of bad spyware related ActiveX controls. This includes general spyware and malicious dialers. You run SpywareBlaster periodically, say once a week, just to check to see if its database has added new malware. After that, it no longer needs to run, but the flags (kill-bits) remain - protecting you.

Two forms of protection in two separate programs - worth running together.

THANKS FOR THE PROMPT REPLY!!!

So I take it from your explanation that Blaster doesn't need to be running in the background to work, only when it updates?

I'll definately try them out and spread the word.

Thanks again.

Yes, that is correct.
