I have a dual boot setup with Win98SE on the C partion, and Linux on a later partition.

The dual boot setup of the MBR was made while installing Linux to a later partition.

Now having made a back up of the Ext3 Linux partition, my question is, do I want to restore it as an "active" or a "logical" partition? The instruction manual on the disk says to restore active partitions as active or they may not boot, but since this is not the C partion and does not include the MBR and it is a dual boot setup, my inclination would be to restore the Linux partition as logical? Is that correct?

    Thank you.

    Hello KarlT,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept my apologies for the delay with the response.

Yes, you are correct. In case Linux boot loader is installed into the MBR, there is no need to restore your Linux partition as Active.

Please also note that only the image of the entire hard drive contains MBR.

You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 in the respective User's Guide.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

    Thank you.
