Default Re: What is your security setup these days?

A good friend is perpetually having trouble with his computer and getting it infected. He's always reformatting the thing. I schooled him on imaging and showed him ShadowProtect, and of course he loved the idea. Since I'll probably never actually have to use it (knock on wood), and I know he will, I sold him mine for a slight discount. And now I'm using Macrium Reflect Free.

I'm looking at the paid versions, namely "Standard". I notice one of the features is "Password protection and encryption". Does this mean it's able to backup & restore password protected and/or encrypted files/folders, and that the free version is not? Or that you can password protect & encrypt the image? Both?

Also "Recovery from Windows boot menu". This seems to be a very handy feature. Has anybody actually used it and can testify to how well it works? Would this method work any better/worse? I assume what it does is when you hit F12 during boot up (XP), it puts an option there on the list along with other things like "boot from CD"... something like "boot from Macrium Reflect image"?

I'm going to post this in the appropriate forum too, but figured someone may be able to help me here while I posted this setup change.

Recovery from Windows boot menu is all I use. I don't even burn a recovery disc anymore. I don't unistall software I just restore image. You'll never know how you got along without it.

Always the same Prevx 3.0 or WSA Essentials! There's nothing lighter or faster!

Bitdefender Total Security 2012. Liking this one, a lot. Runs light(ish), has many modules and with the Auto Pilot mode on, I don't see a single popup. Not even to tell me the database has updated. I added Shadow Defender yesterday which combined with BD is looking like a nice combo.

Would love to find a deal for Shadow Defender.

Paul

Currently running only KIS 2012 real time. Got that great Kaspersky deal from Amazon.com. I have MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware on demand. Is there anything I could run real-time with KIS? It has to be something free right now.

Took advantage of Webroot's half off Cyber Monday deal on their Antivirus. Then I threw in Online Armor Premium and now have a light and tight set up...
