After installing KAV 2011 was getting BSOD on reboot. Decided to drop Malware Defender. Too many kernel level security programs was apparently causing kernel stack overflow, plus tired of answering MD pop-ups. May run WinPatrol in real time to fill void left by MD. Testing below configuration for awhile first. Seems stable thus far.

Firewall:
Linksys Router
DefenseWall Personal Firewall 3.06 (with Windows XP firewall)

Anti-Virus
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 11.0.1.400 (a)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46

Blocklist:
SpywareBlaster 4.3 (with Ad-Aware custom blocking)

Resident on Demand Scanners:
Hitman Pro 3.5.6 Build 110
Mischel TrojanHunter 5.3 (994)
Panda Anti-Rootkit 1.08.00
WinPatrol Plus 18.1.2010.0

Have a good system image ready before you try to uninstall CTM. That's when any trouble will happen. My MBR was trashed twice. I use Rollback Rx now.

Konata, the Windows 7 basic theme with a solid desktop background (in stead of picture) with these settings below (and off course windows indexing disabled), run well on a 3 year old laptop with WEI score of 3 due to graphics limitation. For folder settings you can also disable "Show preview handlers in preview pane". It is my wife's laptop she likes to see photo's in folders without opening.

Win7 basic with Areo disabled, gives just a little more eye-candy

When having the chance have a look at the Samsung F3 1TB or a Solid State DIsk (last years top models have seen two improved versions placed above them, so their prices dropped, while they still have 190MB read and 130MB write speed, they are good value compared to current top SSD's with 220 - 170)

Only been a couple of days with Returnil System Safe 2011 but so far no glitches. My laptop is just a bit slower than with OA++ or DefenseWall.

I do like the combination of virtualization and anti-execute. Stay tuned.

Recently replaced Avira AV with Emsisoft Anti-Malware:
- Happily, no alerts other than many tracking cookies found/blocked while browsing.
- No false alerts whatsoever. None.
- No conflicts with other apps.
- One bad update resulted in W7 freeze, quickly corrected by next update.

MBAM on-demand scans found nothing missed by EAM. SAS on-demand scans have found a few adware cookies ignored by EAM.

Current setup:
- Router.
- SpywareBlaster immunization.
- Online Armor 4.0.0.45 Firewall/HIPS.
- Emsisoft Anti-Malware online AV/AS.
- SAS and MBAM on-demand scanners.
- Paragon HDM 2010 Suite for partition-imaging and disk-cloning.

How? I mean, how using Ad-Aware to get a custom blocking list for SpywareBlaster?

Regrettably I've had to drop Malware Defender after a year of use due to it suddenly starting to misbehave (perhaps caused by a recent windows update). Switched back to Online Armor, the latest version of which runs much more happily on my PC than previous versions, with no noticeable lag. So far so good.

It doesn't seem to slow down general surfing. The only issue I have seen is streaming video delays.

It adds 9,856 more killbits (active X control blocking). See: http://koti.mbnet.fi/pattaya1/swb3.htm

I wasn't aware that Ad-Aware also sets killbits.

Thank you.

LOL I was wondering the same, but I think it is just a classic case of overusing emoticons(the bane of all internet forums).

May not be Lavasoft, but have had no problems with this Custom Blocking List. The only other one that was available was from Dak, Unfortunately he passed away about two years ago.

An unfortunate reality, I'm afraid. Comes to us all.

I dug a little bit, and Ad Aware SE Plus used to block active-x, according to this PC World page (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html)

Maybe the recent versions also do it. I guess I'll to check it out, as soon as I end up performing some tasks.

Regards

Redid the Family Laptop setup

Old setup: MBAM PRO + Winpatrol PLUS + Panda Cloud PRO

This worked but because of the low ram it slowed down the boot.

New Setup: Panda Cloud + Winpatrol + ClearCloud
