I have maybe 1-2MB free :) Actually, only KAV and Outpost use a fair amount of resources. All the rest are either very light or on-demand only.

A little bit of work. The anti-rootkit scanners aren't updated very much (if at all). The AVG anti-rootkit is not available anymore. It was combined with their main program. I mainly concentrate on keeping my upfront to protection up to date. I will update a scanner before I use it.

    Simple & Effective Yet Still:

    :ACTIVE:

    Real-Time Defender (hardly mentioned anymore)
    ProcessGuard 3.5 (effective as always)
    Script Trap (plain-jane but useful)
    Mamutu (a real Behavioral Blocker)
Kerio 2.15 (this is insane, since Win 98, this FW still does the job right enough on XP Pro)

    :ON DEMAND:

DriveSnapshot (the achilles heel against anything)
    AVZ AntiViral Kit (always updated)
    NOD32 (kept updated regularly)
    MBAM (routine periodic scans)
    Sandboxie (no-brainer)

    That's all folks.

Untill Windows 7 is released, quite pleased with XP Pro SP2 AS-IS!

Sandboxie, Avast Free and SpywareBlaster. That's all and that's probably going to be all for the foreseeable future.

    :New Addition:

    AVG AV ( free )

This is a radical turn for me. I haven't used AVG since before when XP very first was released on Windows 98 ( AVG 6 )

Contrary to the pros and cons i just had to discover for myself how far along they've come. It's a tad bit heavy but much lighter then in times past and i see it doesn't clash either with Real-Time Defender, Sandboxie, or Mamutu, so it should settle in this arsenal of mine satisfactory.

Avira & NOD32 which i also hold licenses to are quicker & lighter in comparison, but i'm intrigued in the way AVG seems to READ with determination the files it scans and it found a Zlob variant in my Windows folder of which i'm going to confirm it's authenticity today.

As efficient as NOD32 & Avira is been, i decided to examine AVG for the first time in many years and so far it's not bad. AVG was a long time favorite of mine on Win 98 but as trends go, it's received a back-burner position for me in light of the others, but nonetheless, this is a new change in conduct i'm taking.

It's up to AVG to prove it's useful enough to settle on and so far it seems satisfactory.

Anyone have any opinions on AVG as to it's standing in the AV circles today?

Based on the most recent on-demand comparisons in Av-comparatives:

    http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse_2008_08.php

    AVG garnered "ADVANCED+" with 94.3%.
    Suprisingly higher than NOD32's result.

    It's a decent AV+AS bundle.
I installed it without the LinkScanner module.
Doesn't hog my system down as much as NIS 2009 or KAS.

Agreed it's better then before many versions that preceeded it. I still only use it on-demand or in high traffic areas where jaywalkers might be present. LOL

Avira & NOD32 still hold sway in my camp but AVG is right there among them so long as theres no degrade in performance.

On my XP Pro machine AVG appears slightly slower, in other samples it seems to scoop them right up. So my answer & results can't really determine at this point which of the two we're concerned about is actually faster then the other. I need to conduct more testings and do an overview of their respective response factors.

Heads up guys. Lets not turn this into an AV A vs B discussion. You know the rules.
