Smile Re: What is your security setup these days?

Under WinXP Pro SP3:
-Opera 9.52
-avast! 4.8 Pro (all Shields ON; Script:OFF)
-Sandboxie 3.30 (Registered w/ basic rules)
-Hardware Firewall (Linksys Modem/Router w/ NAT & SPI)
-Windows XP FW set to "Don't allow any exceptions"
-EAZ-FIX 8.1 Pro

I use some on-Demand Free scanners (SAS, MBAM, Dr.Web CureIt!, a2 etc.),
but they never find a thing, as I rollback my pc -after each internet session-
to a Snapshot created on the day of format.
For email, I use Gmail.

-As I am behind a router (=Hardware FW) can I rely on the WinXP FW
or should I use an -Additional- software FW?
-Is there anything else I can add to my Security setup?

New setup since Rising decided to piss everyone off this week.

There needs to be a good, free, light FW for x64 that doesn't have window APIs it can easily bypass. *sigh*

Spent the past week trying new (and old) firewalls: Comodo with and without D+, Webroot (which got up to 500mb of memory), Vista FW Control... Kind of happy with Rising, but I'm always looking to tinker. have no reason so far NOT to be happy with it. I wish something like PC-Tools worked with x64, or webroot fixed their crap. It'd be a GREAT firewall/HIPS without the memory leak.

Wow.

Curious as to why you dumped DefenseWall. It can't be because of annoying pop-up's - it doesn't produce any.

It was between DefenseWall and Sandboxie for me. I had some speed issues when browsing with DefenseWall after one of the updates and I couldn't get them resolved. I switched back to Sandboxie afterwards and I prefer this method of 'sandboxing' anyway.

Also, I know that DefenseWall can protect beyond what a LUA can do but I find that a LUA is 'good enough'

Thats interesting. I haven't used Defensewall for browsing for a long time. Have to give it a try.

I use Sandboxie for browsing and Defensewall for everything else. Adding the sandbox folder as untrusted in DW means anything recovered from the sandbox falls into DW as untrusted. Great combination in my view.

I'd say get rid of ThreatFire and Zemana.

In your case id keep only 3: Avira, DW and MBAM but you could even leave out the third. What about a firewall,Opera/Firefox browser, a linkscanner maybe?

I'd drop.........
KeyScrambler, Zemana Antilogger and Threatfire / not really needed with DefenseWall and Malware Defender on the job.

Also I would lose.....
Counterspy and Ad-Aware.

If your looking for another opinion other then Malwarebytes AntiMaware you can always add SAS.
A firewall would'nt be a bad idea.

Have you posted this problem on the DW forum?
My wife is on Messenger Live and it can run 'untrusted' and IE7 opens and runs just fine while protected.

Have you tried posting your issue with DW in their forums?

Ilya is usually pretty quick in responding.

There's GesWall, another policy based HIPS. I know of no other quite like the two.

The best feature in DW is the developer. Ask him for help.

One thing you should try to check is for incompatibilities with Comodo.
Have you tried with DW and without CFP, and then without DW (with CFP)?
Only disabling, not uninstalling.

It's only a quick check, and allows you to email Ilya some information in advance. You will find he's first class.
