Default Online Armor-Weird Updates Problem

Hi all

Anyone shed any light on the following ?

Recently installed Online Armor (15 day trial version) after some positive reviews on this forum.Unsure as to the version (1.1.0....?). First action was to update (dial up), and after several failed attempts (which can be found in the history/log) it seemed as if I was successfull in updating 12 updates (first being Online Armor.Exe 1.39mb followed by 11 others, total around 8-9mb). The version number changed to 1.1.0.450,and a 'last update' date of 9th November was displayed.

Today, on opening up Online Armor and checking for updates, the program launches the updates as before, i.e. starting again from 1 of 12 beginning with 'online Armor.exe 1.39mb.

Whats going on.?...was I NOT successful in the original update download ?...why did the version number change and why a date of 9th November displayed?

Appreciate some advice....many thanks in anticipation

There was an update today 1.1.0.459 and it did start out the same as yesterday. The last part of the updates is languages.

Thumbs up Re: Online Armor-Weird Updates Problem

Many thanks for your prompt response Beetlejuice69....downloaded the latest updates and the new version is as you say 1.1.0459.

Just thought I would ask as I was unsure if my previous updates had got somewhat corrupted or failed in some way !

Thumbs up for Online Armor...really impressed with the new app.

Cheers all.....

Glad you like it.

Just for the record - OA should tell you if ever there is a problem with it's updates - so you can generally assume that if it's downloading something, it is a genuine update.

I'd appreciate a little more info about the updates. I notice that they update 12 different modules(if that's what they are). Each module is of varying size seeming from 400k to 2.5mb.
1. When an update is applied is it definition's like a AV?
2. Is it a program update?
3. Is it both?
4. Are all 12 being updated or could it be just 3 of them but we have to download all 12?

I also noticed that when there is no update available it doesn't say anything to tell you that. The fact it just doesn't update seems to indicate that. But it would be nice for a message to appear to say something like "You have the latest version". Just a cosmetic adjustment really. But would be nice.

Thanks,
muf

Hi Muf,

It can be a rules, program, or both. Only files where you do not have the latest version are downloaded.

A couple of people have made the cosmetic comment - it's likely something I will address soon.

The latest automatic/manual update that I was able to install is application version 1.1.0.457. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the supposed latest version 1.1.0.459? Interestingly enough, I could have sworn that version 459 was installed on 11/9 or 11/10. What seems to be the problem?

If you open the Online Armor window while it is downloading you can see which files it is downloading. If i'm not mistaken 10 of the 12 files are language files!

Sorry CogitoErgoSum - it's just a numbering error We'll correct it on the next one.

@GeneBenson - I'm also revising the languages update because clearly - you dont want to download all languages (just the active one) and I don't want to consume the bandwidth.

Mike, I seem to be receiving a new update every other day. Any reason for these frequent updates? Any problems that you are prepared to share with us? From my experience, frequent updates usually means a problem with the underlying code....

Hope not!

My current version is 1.1.0.522 as of 19 November.

Hi Leitchy,

In the last couple of days we have fixed a few issues that were reported over at the forums at the Tall Emu site.

We also accidentally posted the wrong version of a file a couple of days ago which was one unnecessary update (or two, if you count replacing it)

Fixes, in no particular order...

* Unhack me incompatibility
* French language program-blocker problem
* Delay on starting PC on reboot
* Issue where OA could not be cleanly uninstalled
* Issue where OA could hang on first reboot (actually, that was reported privately)

As a couple of these issues had a high level of impact on some users, or the potential to impact lots of users I decided to do the releases as they were done.

Todays release fixed up the uninstall Issue. OA's self-protection got a bit carried away and made it hard to uninstall unless you knew what you were doing. I had a couple of complaints about that one - so that needed to be sorted immediately.

It's be back to quiet now, unless you're interested in testing Kernel mode OA, or the OA Toolbar

Thanks for the snappy reply, Mike. Fast off the mrk as usual. Since I'm a bit of a fan-boy for Online Armor, I guess I could be persuaded to be a beta tester. I have an always-connected-to-the-Net system, so I hope I'll be able to provide some value.

I'll check out the Tall Emu forums...
