Unhappy Error while unpacking program

For a couple of days now I've been getting the following message when trying to start Spywareblaster 3.4:

"Error occurred while unpacking program, code 4. Please report to author."

I'm currently running Win98SE.

I've tried unloading the program, rebooting and reloading from scratch but still with the same result.

Any ideas?

Hello,

As stated in this thread,

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=91623

That error is almost always caused by an existing malware infection.

Take a look through it and see if anything there helps u.

Thanks, Snowbound.

I've had a look through my system but can't seem to find either of the problem programs mentioned.

Downloaded SpywareDoctor3.2 from one of the suggested web sites but got the same "code 4" error message when that tried to load at startup. One of the online scan sites allegedly found all kinds of trackers and other crud on my hard drive and in IE. The cynic in me thinks that may have been a novel way of getting a subscription to "fix" it.

I'll just keep digging away and let you know the solution, if I succeed.

The only other advise i could give is, to make sure your system is clean, post a HijackThis log over at this forum,

http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum...?showforum=170

explain your issues, then let the experts there give u recommendations on any malware found.
