A friend just purchased a new computer which came with XP Home with SP2 already installed. He has auto updates turned off and has a firewall and AV installed, but Windows is driving him nuts with constant system tray pop up warnings about auto updates being off, or "your computer might be at risk blah blah blah" (due to an apparent inability of Windows, to detect any non-MS firewall/AV running).
I am also running XP Home but I have not installed SP2 and I don't have this problem, so we're assuming it's probably SP2 related. Does anyone know if there is any way to shut off these annoying pop up alerts? They are nothing more than a constant PITA. TIA! |

Click start /control panel/ security center/ under resources click on change the way security center alerts me and then make sure that the box is unchecked that says automatic updates. see screen shot. that will stop it from bothering you about auto updates being turned off
