Hmmm I have been using this for some time now and cannot see any Adverts at all apart from the AOL logo... http://ossian.myby.co.uk/avs.png which isn't that much bigger than the Kaspersky bit and who hangs around in the main antivirus interface anyway. I usually just see this: http://ossian.myby.co.uk/icon.png highlighted by red circle for presentation purposes. I wouldn't call a logo an "ad" I'd say it was no more intrusive than any other AV and a small price for top rate antivirus. This smacks of AOL-phobia to me Phasechange ![]()

No one knows if it will stay free and so what? You would have used Kaspersky free for a year and who knows you might even have liked it so much that you end up buying it because you want those extra modules!

~direct download of pdf removed....Bubba~
from the test result at AV-C.org, I would have to assume avast! 4 home has got the best result in all 4 free AVs(antivir, avast, avg, avs) ? all the testes are paid version so we dont exactly know how's free version performance. antivir free: no spyware/adware detection , it stated clearly on its site AVG free: no anti-spyware, it stated clearly on its site avast free : it has most feature of its paid version. Which it lacks seems has nothing to do with anti-spyware. AVS: I am told its a lame version of Kas. I have no idea how much it gets from Kas. So avast is pretty much the best PUP detector in freewares and pretty much the worst in paid AVs, right ? PS. above comments just for the discussion, and they are my assumptions. I am using antivir free and spysweeper now. "Please link ONLY to our main site www.av-comparatives.org and not to the other subpages. Antivir continues to show at the top in all areas. At least for me, it meets all of the criteria of this thread.

Antivir has a top rate in the test of AV-comparatives, but it is a on-demand rate. Nobody can offer a rate based on real-time.
I think the real-time rate is just the most important rate, because nobody scans his hard-drives everyday. In Oct the test from AV-comparatives show Antivir's rate was 96%, do you think it has 96% of real-time rate? |

yes, usually on-demand and on-access rates do not differ much (if at all). on-execution some few products may have higher (prevention) rates (e.g. those that have a registry guard, etc.)

OK so according to the PUP test, itīs not true at all that AVīs perform badly when it comes to detecting spyware and other stuff? Or perhaps you should test with spyware samples alone IBK?
But itīs nice to see that 2 of my favorites (KAV and AntiVir) are doing well. ![]() Last edited by Rasheed187 : November 22nd, 2006 at 10:48 AM. |

I think I picked up a few weeks on my AOL (Kaspersky). I downloaded it when I saw it first listed here, ran it for a while, then took it out and cleaned every trace before trying another, including running a registry cleaner.
When I went back to avs on Nov 15, it now says it expires on Nov 15 2007. The way my old, tired, computer is running lately, I'll be forced into a new one by then, anyway.
