Default Master File Table corruption

I recently purchased a Sony laptop with Windows Vista. I just received a notice that read after attempting to repair that windows cannot recover the master table file. What can I do?

Have you tried tapping/holding F10 at boot which may give an option to access and use the recovery partition which should put the laptop back to how it was at purchase.
