setting firefox portable as default browser?

hi everyone
using firefox portable but running it from hdd instead of a portable drive.
the problem is when i set it as default browser, links to web pages placed on desktop launches a firefox which is different than the one normally is launched.
i mean, firefox is customized in a way i want it to be, and when i launch it from the firefox shortcut on the desktop, it operates w/out any problems.
but when i set it as the default browser and click a link to a webpage/site on the desktop, it launches not the customized firefox but a different one which is not the one i customized.
also this different firefox's history is not the same as normal launched firefox. it has its own history.

how can i fix this issue so that everytime i click a link to a webpage/site on desktop, it launches not the un-customized ff, but the customized one?
