Default Re: Google Adds 2-Factor Security to Gmail, Apps

If Google implements this I will cease to use any Google services.
I use Gmail because it's (was) easy and simple. One place to receive mail that I can access anywhere that isn't tied to my shifting allegiance to ISP's.

There is no need for an email provider to have need for my cell phone number, there is only tracking capability with a gps chip stuck to your head.
Your location when signed on will be available to them regardless of the anonymity you may want.

I don't have a cell phone so I will know when it is time for me to sever the ties.

As I understand it, this will be an optional "feature". I agree with you though, I will cease to use Google any more if they make this optional.

Why should those of use who use strong secure passwords be penalized, inconvenienced, annoyed all for that sake of "protecting" those who don't.

I have a cell phone but Google will never get the number.
