Default Protection Through Hard Drive Encryption

Protection Through Hard Drive Encryption - Not Only For Laptops!
Quote:
Security software that protects you from online attacks is commonplace nowadays, but what about physical attacks on your hardware? What if your laptop goes missing while traveling or your workstation at your office gets stolen in a burglary? Even on a password-protected OS the data is saved unencrypted on the hard drive and can be read without any problems through a newly installed OS.

I was oddly drawn to this sentence:
Quote:
Let's talk about the security of AES: Breaking the key (testing of all possible combinations) would take several years of computing time if using 128 bit.
Hmmm, I'm pretty sure there's a word missing. Trillion? Quadrillion? I can only assume that the author couldn't decide which one to use and mistakenly left it out entirely.

Cracking a 128 bit key by brute force would take longer than the age of the Sun even if using all the computers on earth. So, yeah, his "several years" comment is wrong.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Actually the author wrote that article in German and used "million" but the English translator accidently left it out.

I've fixed it. Thanks again!
