I see a lot of people posting about problems with where their data is stored. I assumed, that a full back-up .tib file could be moved anywhere I want it; just like any other file. I created a full back-up of my computer that I wrote to the D: drive. I later moved the .tib file to an external drive.
I understand that in case of a disaster the file would need to be somewhere that I could access it, possibly without an OS running. But if I can access it I should be good to go …. Correct? Or do I need to create the file to whatever media I will be using? |

The only problem with moving a TIB file is that the TI 2009 internal database will lose track of it. Personally, I don't care about that and move my files where I want them. If you're using a pre-2009 version (TI 11 or earlier), then there's no problem with a database because there isn't one.
Whenever you move an image file, it's a good idea to validate it from its new location to make sure it's okay before you delete the original.

Okay, thanks. I’m not sure I understand why the internal database would lose track of it, or care where it is…. But I guess then I need to write the back-up directly to the external drive I want it to ultimately be stored on….?

Or just boot the TI and tell it where to look for the .TIB file you want. I think this is a button called "search". It will look where you point it and then use that .TIB file. If it were me, I'd create the backup where I wanted to store and use it. Fungus |
