This will be running on an Intel x86 processor with 10 hours of planned battery life. The processor inside is a two-watt Intel Clover Trail model, although Samsung said it could also use an ultra low voltage chip. It also has two and eight-megapixel cameras and a number of ports, such as a USIM slot, a microSD reader and a Superspeed USB port.

Microsoft can put whatever good face on it but this is a huge hurdle that just went up for a successful ARM tablet launch. I wonder if this may have been a pushback from HP after learning that Microsoft was going to market their own tablets.

HP never said it would release ARM-based tablets. HP will focus on products based on Intel/AMD chips that come with Windows 8.

Personally, I won't be buying any ARM-based tablet in the foreseeable future. Surface Pro isn't ARM-based.

Hands-on with Microsoft's new tablet-oriented keyboard and mouse

Microsoft's new peripherals are bold, even if they fall short on functionality.

by Casey Johnston

Microsoft officially announced today two new peripherals meant to accompany Windows 8 tablets: the Wedge Touch Mouse and the Wedge Mobile Keyboard. Both are highly compact Bluetooth devices that are optimized in certain ways for tablet use. Ars got some hands-on time with both items last week, and while their form factors and some design details are clever, some features are confusingly absent.
