I have a HP laptop running WIN7 Professional. Yesterday I remarked that the CD drive is not shown on the desktop. I open Disk Management, and either there the CD drive is not shown.
The lonely action (change) I did was to remove and reinstall Nero. Thanks |

This sounds like the classic upper/lower filter problem.
I do not know your level of skill but if you search for "optical drive" + "filter fix" you will find everything from automated fixes to step by step manual registry editing steps.

I have seen this same problems many times, especially on Vista. Microsoft has a "FixIt" that makes some registry hacks and does, indeed, Fix It.

Here is the Microsoft fix-it page for it
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd...ve_problems/en If you want to fix it yourself (upper/lower filter fix) see this page (scroll down a little way) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116/en-gb |

Many thanks to all of you for your kind assistance.
Nosirrah I followed the steps for the "manually editing" process. (deleting Lower and Upper filter as per the instructions in - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116 ) It solved the issue Stapp Above instructions are different then the ones in - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116/en-gb Thanks Last edited by samy : November 2nd, 2012 at 01:56 PM. |
