A problem I can't understand

Hello,

I hope someone may be able to help me with this.

I find I cannot open any .bmp files in Fireworks, nor will any other program such as MSPaint or Windows Media Player open them. I find I cannot open .doc files in Microsoft word.

I’ve checked all file associations and they are correct.

This problem has only arisen within the last few days and I’ve no idea what might have brought it about anyone any ideas please?
