title says it all; i'm looking for a benchmark app that works both on Windows and Linux.
i'm looking for something that can tests the machine performance under different tasks: media encoding, graphic rendering, office productivity, etc...

You keep saying you're not a rocket scientist but the stuff you post about is really awesome. Keep it up. Benchmarks, wow!
How will you handle pesky system activity of the housekeeping type? What's your hardware like now? Is it all new? Phoronix will be getting sleepless nights ![]() BTW, didn't you say you're done with Linux forever a few months ago?

Linpack just measures floating point operations per second.

Tnx! ![]() i already did one test about a week ago using Blender in Win 7, Win 8 and Linux Mint Maya. both Windows were virtually equal while Mint cut the render time in almost half. that test used the Cycles render 'engine', which apparently is mostly GPU based. i want to do another test but using mainly the CPU this time. i'll do some test with file copy/paste to different drives to see what i get. suggestions are always welcome. i keep a very lean and clean machine. on Windows 7, i never have more than 9-10 processes running (using Task Manager) when the machine is idle. i am using a 5 years old Acer duo-core desktop computosaur. .i'm hoping keeping it another 2-3 years. Quote:
it's possible, my memory is not the best.lol in any case, i found solutions for the main problems i had been having all these years with Linux distros: sound and resuming from Suspend. Quote:

tnx m8! ![]() i found a video on Youtube, it doesn't look too complicated... -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3jr6XTTZOU the Wikipedia entry for Linpack looked pretty scary; with talks of supercomputers, EVACs and whatnot. ![]()
