Some time back, I used to use WinRar as my archiver/extract tool, even though I had both WinRar and 7-Zip installed. The reason was back then, I came across archive(s) that 7-Zip wouldn't extract which WinRar could. Nevertheless, at 1 point in time, I decided to uninstall WinRar and try to convert to using 7-Zip as the default tool instead simply due to it's nature of being free and open source. FYI: I didn't bother to do any speed or compression ration testing at all. Ever since then, funnily enough, I've yet to come across an archive which it wouldn't handle and so didn't look back at WinRar. However, if the need arises, I guess I'm fine with either one of these 2.

Yes. Versatile - can unzip all sorts of archives that I met so far. Fast. Does the job.

The only reason for me to switch could be it being faster. I can do everything I want with Winrar really, so that's why I compared speed.

Nope, the interface is too crude. I have licenses for WinRAR and WinZip. WinRAR is probably the better product, due to the included and very good quality self extractor and lifetime license. I had originally purchased a WinZip license for v6 (when it was a supposed lifetime license) and have upgraded a few times, but the money gouging has gotten bad enough I will not likely continue. PowerArchiver is not bad but I do not use it. I prefer all of them to 7-Zip.

PowerArchiver is nice, but it turns out that the trial version won't let you fully test part of its functionality; it wants you to buy an upgrade. ![]() |
