Question Home LAN printer sharing

Hi.
Is there a Linux distro where sharing a printer over a LAN at home is as easy as with XP for instance?
Installing and configuring samba server is too complicated for me, sorry.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
François

I followed the ubuntu guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ne...tingWithUbuntu.
Worked fine 5 years ago with our old laser printer and worked fine with my HP inkjet about 2 weeks.

Cheers, Nick.

I second what Nick said. I have a network HP printer with Ubuntu and it really just took HPLip to get all the printer/fax/scanner functions to work. Just follow the Ubuntu wikis and help pages.

Getting the printer to operate through a strong firewall can be more challenging.

You definitely do not need to install a samba server to print.

Thanks.
The wife is on Windows7 so I'll need Samba to share the printer over the LAN.
I configured my Ubuntu box according t the guide and will try it tonight.

Later,
François

I really don't think you do need samba. I am able to use my network HP printer on Ubuntu and Windows machines without it. You'll probably need CUPS in Linux though. You install the HP software on the Windows boxes and HPLip on the Linux boxes.

However, if you want to share files between the Windows and Linux computers, then you'll need samba.

Works great without Samba, thanks!
I can now use only Linux on my PC!
