Question Backups

We are currently using Backup Exec to backup our server's data nightly to 3 different tape drives attached to one server. Does the backup for TI work in the same way - can I dump Backup Exec completely or does this software complement BE in that it will allow me to do a bare metal restore? I read the option to backup but was wondering how this worked in a real world situation - ie, do people use this as their only backup in a small business environment?

Default Re: Backups

Hello wssn00b,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Server Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that Acronis True Image uses snapshot technology that allows creating backup images of the running computer. Acronis True Image creates a sector-by-sector snapshot of the disk, which includes the operating system, registry, drivers, software applications and data files, as well as system areas hidden from the user. This procedure is called “creating a disk image,” and the resulting backup archive is often called a disk/partition image.

Therefore, should a disaster happen you will be able to restore the system to the moment of image creation.

In addition, using Acronis True Image in conjunction with Acronis Universal Restore you will be able to perform a bare-metal restore to new system with different hardware (motherboard, mass storage controller).

Note that Acronis Universal Restore is a plug-in for Corporate versions of Acronis True Image and should be purchased and installed separately.

Please also note that corporate versions of Acronis True Image support tape drives as a backup storage devices. Have a look at this article for details.

Since you are interesting in server backup we would recommend that you use Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server or Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows.

The major difference between Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows and Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server is that the latter provide you with the remote backup feature (have a capability of performing a backup process remotely from a central location).

We recommend you to download and install the free trial version of the respective version of Acronis True Image to see how the software works on your computer.

You can find the detailed instructions on how to use Acronis True Image in the respective User's Guide.

Please visit Acronis online store to purchase the full version of the product. Note that we have a flexible system of discounts and the amount of the discount varies depending on the number of copies you want to purchase. In case you are planning to purchase many copies (10 or more), please contact our Sales Team by filling up the Volume License Request form available at the Purchase Acronis Corporate Solutions page of Acronis web site.

Thank you.
