was your site hacked at some point and cleaned up??

Check your .htaccess file for redirects - alternatively - your host might have a directive that supplied a default favicon.ico if none is found, and that could be the problem file or redirect.

I have considerable experience cleaning up hacked sites - we have a web hosting division - there are some pretty hard to find redirects - the first time I found a mod-rewrite hack it was quite impressive - these days, they do it every time they compromise a site it seems.
