Default How do you update MRU Blaster?

This is probably a dumb question, but how does one update MRU Blaster? I don't see an "Update" button. Does one just download the new release and install over, or uninstall old and then install new ?

MRU Blaster doesn't have a built-in updater. When a new update is released you download the install kit and execute it. It updates the necessary files leaving you with the new database. You do not need to remove the old version, but, you must make sure MRU Blaster is not running when you install the new one over it.

Default For the administrators

Administrators, I think you should write an "update MRU Blaster" post and PIN it to the top of the first page - so the ppl here will not ask you again and again, how to update it

Every newbie here is interested about how to update and if he doesnt find some thread about it, he will create a new one and you - the administrators - have to answer it, so wouldnt be better for you make ONE POST about it and pin it to the first page, so everyone will see it and will not ask questions again and again?

If I were you, I would do so - it can save your time

MRU Blaster's updates are provided through downloading and running the full installation package. These packages are available from download links on the main MRU Blaster page here:

Does this program only get updated when there is something extra ordinary discovered or what?
I thought somehow I was missing updates -- but, I see that the "latest" version is 7/19/03 which is the one I have -- is this correct?

Yes, that is the latest available public build of MRU-Blaster. A new database update is being worked on.

Best regards,

Based on the fact that JavaCool started talking about updates seven years ago, I suppose I should finally consider this project abandoned. I subscribed to JC's blog in 2008 because he was expecting to have news about the new version at the beginning of the year - as in 2009. Since I subscribed to the blog in '08 there has been a grand total of 6 posts! Unfortunately, none of them regarding MRU-Blaster.

It's a free program and I've loved it and appreciated it.

RIP, MRU-Blaster.

There is some background in other threads about how the (current) MRU-Blaster engine was extended about as much as possible, and a rewrite was required. (The core MRU-Blaster engine was originally released back in 2002, and to say a few things have changed since then would be quite an understatement.)

Since then, we've spent a lot of time researching, testing, and brainstorming the best possible way of delivering a modern, fast, worthy successor to MRU-Blaster 1.5.

It's been a long time coming, and although I generally do not give out release dates (for obvious reasons ), I can comfortably say:

You should be pleasantly surprised this year.

Best regards,

-Javacool

Hi Javacool! Actually I was going to respond in another thread that included your post below, but it said the thread was too old to respond to. I was aware of the need to do a complete rewrite because you posted the following in 2008:

Default Re: Is MRU Blaster and the Forum dead?

Hi,

As mentioned previously, the current MRU-Blaster program and engine, while being quite useful, has neared the end of its extendability. For that and other reasons, a complete re-write for MRU-Blaster has been in the works, and is progressing very nicely. We've gone back to the drawing board (so to speak) a number of times, to get a scanning and cleaning engine that's flexible, extendable, powerful, and (most importantly) fast. We have that now, and it's just a matter of continuing to build in the additional pieces, including some really neat new ideas.

I don't want to release too much information while features and functionality are still somewhat in flux, but I do think most people will be quite pleased with the result. I should have more information to post about it in the new year.

Best regards,

-Javacool

Almost identical to the post you just left. You said you were thinking you'd have info to post in the new year (2009). But, I hope 2010 is the year for a new MRU-Blaster! At any rate, it's been a great free program for many years and thank you!
GOOD LUCK!

Got to brought back to life this thread just to ask if there's any info regarding the "new" version? I wanna try this one out but I don't feel confident given the fact that last version was released almost 2 years ago...

I believe the release date of MRU Blaster v1.5 was more then two years ago, but 28 March 2004, nearly nine years, but it still cleans up fine.

Take Care
