Also will my Antec Smartpower 2.0 500 watt with a 12v(1) rating of 17 amps be able to handle the above mentioned card ?

eVGA recommends at least a 450W PSU for this card, and if you are running a single card, I recommend 500W, but to be safe, I'd go out there and buy a 600W PSU.

As for the fan noise, I've heard claims that the later revisions of this card do not slow down the fan if you are not playing games, due to which it may seem noisy. I have no idea how to find which revision of the card you will get. Lots of mixed reviews on the fan noise

And BTW, just for trivia: I ran a GeForce FX 5900 with a 250W PSU a long time back. Worked for a year or so till the PSU conked out.

I have a Smartpower 2.0 500 watt ...it is recommended the card also be run with at least 18 amps..............PU has 17a for MOB & peripherals and a separate 17a for processor....also has a pci-e connector.......not sure where to plug it to be safe (if at all).........

I have not had a lot of experience with video cards..........if a card is calling for say 450 watts, does that mean the PU needs to be at least 450 watts or does that mean the card in of itself requires 450 watts....

It means that the PSU should be rated at least 450W, though I'd recommend a bit higher than that.
