Not quite.

There will be little performance degradation, what will happen is performance variation, depending if you write on cells that have been written to before. And lifespan is hardly a consideration for most people. The disks will last approx. 5-10 years regardless of the write activity.

Formatting does nothing.

Secure erase between install - unnecessary.

Unplugging a device while it's running - how about not and instead using firmware updates to achieve the desired results.
