What is the "Other" Protocols

I have downlaoded the free version of Colasoft Capsa software. I have setup some filters setup and running but, what protocol's make up the "Other" group under TCP?

Hi Travis,

You see "Other" TCP traffic because none of the built-in protocol rules on Capsa can recognize them. Capsa will use TCP ports to identify protocol type, and Capsa can't recognize them all. So you need manually create protocol rules on Capsa to teach it how to recognize traffic by its correct protocol. Here is how you create a protocol rule:

1. Stop the capture and go back to the Start Page.
2. Click Menu button, Options.
3. Open Protocol Settings, click Add button to create a protocol.
4. Enter protocol name and port value, and save.

Now start a capture, and you can see the protocol you just specified.
