Default Chemical giant foils infected USB stick espionage bid

An ingenious way of distributing malware. Infect a few USB keys and throw them around hoping somebody with pick them up and connect them to their computers.

Quote:
An attempt to infiltrate the corporate systems of Dutch chemical giant DSM by leaving malware-riddled USB sticks in the corporation's car park has failed.

From time to time this is done by security firms as well (usb-sticks in offices and parkings etc.) to test employees to not use them into company pc's.

Just a bit silly to leave only usb sticks lying around.
It be smarter to leave them in a (plastc) bag along with f.i. a recent HR report (from the company targeted), a small wallet with some change and a (fake sportclub/library) membership card or a keychain/keyring with an usb stick attached etc.
At least something less conspicuous than just an usb stick.

Actually if they had just left them in a box with a sign that said "Free USB drive" people probably would have just taken them.
