Default USB FlashDrive write protection - error

Hello guys!

I've tried almost everything to make an USB flashdrive to work but nothing.
I've tried all methods found HERE but none worked.

When I insert the usb flashdrive and try to open it I get: "This drive is not formatted. Format now?"
When I choose Yes, nothing happens... and I also get when trying to format it using some tools: "This device is write protected".

Now after messing with it for 30 minutes the situation has changed. I insert it, I can see it in My Computer and when I click on it I get:"Please insert a disk in drive J:"

Are there any chances to make it work or ... ?

Hi Pykko,

Does it contain current data you're looking to access or one you'd like to format? What happen's if you keep the shift key held down both prior to insertion and a short duration thereafter? The make? If previously formatted, which utility was used? Add whether you'd applied the popular disable auto-run tweak.

Whoop's, may have mis-read some of this .... When I choose Yes, nothing happens... and I also get when trying to format it using some tools: "This device is write protected."

You talk'in hp's? Which file of their's?

I want to format it. I don't need the files stored there. It was a movie (it is not my usb flash anyway).
I tried with this tool

Since you didn't mention the brand, I'll ask if you occasionally boot linux?
Look in your registry, she listed as a "vid" entry under this key?

hklm\system\currentcontolset\enum\usb\vid_somenumber

To clarify:========================

Regardless the brand, I doubt it would defy that pdl trick.
*Trusting you've a copy of knoppix amid your arsenal.

no, I don't boot linux and anyway this behaviour was on my friend's PC also.
I think I haven't tried the re-assigning drive letter. I'll try booting from knoppix also soon.

No knoppix? Shame on you Pykko. It's not loaded (trashware), is it? Still haven't told me the make?
Once you get'er working, usbdlm? Don't miss "what it's not, tips for solving problems with usb drives."

Maybe a low-level format would work.
