about:addons-memory provides an experimental about: page for advanced users to display some memory usage statistics about their add-ons.

To use, open about:addons-memory in a new tab.

Dear press,
no, it is not OK to install this add-on along with the Top 20 or something add-ons and publish articles singling out the "biggest memory wasters" or something along the lines of this. This is wrong, superficial, sensationalist and outright wrong.
Adblock Plus, being the most popular add-on, using 20-30 MB of memory is not a problem. Add-ons that may use hundreds of mega bytes of memory with steadily growing memory usage *may* be a problem and this add-on is intended to find exactly these kinds of issues more easily.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...memory/?src=ss

Not necessarily a must have extension though, just out of curiosity it's worth it.

Just discovered Cookie Manager Plus. You can edit the expiration date of cookies, essentially making them last forever, or for the rest of your life anyway. Great for sites you wanna stay logged in to.

This extension may have been posted if so i apologize for re-posting. I've not had much experience with these User Agent tools, but when i found this then discovered how versatile it was i thought I'd share it. After downloading you have the option to import user agents, you should see the list..

Enjoy!

My only "must" is ABP. I guess if you're really into security NoScript is a "must", but my on and off relationship with it finally got me to just dump it. Global scripting allowed kind of defeats the purpose, and globally blocked just isn't worth the time and effort to me.

I do wonder if RequestPolicy and NoScript cover the same things.

they cover a lot of the same things but RP is more granular in a per-site basis.

I use both as they cover different areas. Essentially, Noscript blocks executable content and RequestPolicy blocks requests to other sites.

https://www.requestpolicy.com/security.html
Quote:
What RequestPolicy cannot help with

It's important to understand that RequestPolicy can only stop requests that the browser knows about. It is possible for browser plugins such as Flash, Java, and Silverlight to bypass the web browser in making requests. Even though some requests made by these plugins are controlled by RequestPolicy, it's good to be aware that third-party plugins such as these may bypass the browser and, therefore, also bypass RequestPolicy.

In addition to disallowing these plugins by default, there are also plenty of security reasons to disallow JavaScript on websites you visit unless you are sure you want to allow it. To help you control when plugins and JavaScript run on website you visit, we suggest using the NoScript Firefox extension. Using NoScript in addition to RequestPolicy will give you a highly secure browser.

https://www.requestpolicy.com/faq.html#faq-noscript
Quote:
Is RequestPolicy an alternative or competitor to NoScript?

No!

NoScript is a tool that gives you a default deny policy for JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins. NoScript allows you to whitelist scripts and objects from domains you trust.

RequestPolicy is a tool that gives you a default deny policy for cross-site requests. RequestPolicy allows you to whitelist cross-site requests you trust.

How does RequestPolicy help you where NoScript does not? RequestPolicy will protect you from various attacks that NoScript will not (such as CSRF attacks, though there some special cases that NoScript protects against) and will give you greater privacy while browsing.

Also, RequestPolicy will give you finer-grained control over JavaScript and plugins when you use it with NoScript. For example, if you whitelist a domain with NoScript to allow it to run JavaScript, then that domain will also be allowed to run JavaScript when you are on any other site that you have whitelisted with NoScript. RequestPolicy makes sure that when it is JavaScript from a third-party site, it will still be restricted unless you have allowed those cross-site requests.

Conversely, NoScript gives you protection that RequestPolicy does not. RequestPolicy will not keep you safe from malicious JavaScript or vulnerable plugins on the current site you are visiting, So, NoScript is absolutely essential for browser security.

Having two separate tools that each do their specific jobs well is the best approach. NoScript is an amazing extension and is absolutely essential (like RequestPolicy) to using Firefox securely. It is best to use both RequestPolicy and NoScript.

This extension rocks, I rarely got excited about Browser plug-ins, this would be one of them.

I haven't noticed anybody posting Beefree (http://honeybeenet.altervista.org/beefree/)
Sorry if it was mentioned before. This is really a must-have.
It removes tracking-parts of URLs.

I tried Disconnect and after several hours, it hadn't blocked anything. I think I'm already getting the same protection through my other extensions.

Well, now I went through this on Chrome as well (though I've become very convinced Chrome treats these types of extensions differently). Have you tried re-installing the extension? Also, what are you looking at when you're determining that nothing is being blocked? Be aware that Disconnect will not block anything under "Content" unless you specify it. It remains grayed out and default allowed. Analytics, Social and Advertising will be seen as "green" though and each label is blocked by default. It's to keep websites working properly.

Correct me if im wrong please.
Is not the session manager a security risk in firefox..?

I remember a case where the winfixer rogue could use the session manager in firefox to infiltrate the host OS.

I'm looking at the addon's drop-down menu. For example, in this screenshot 19 Advertising and 6 Analytics requests were blocked. In my case, these were always showing 0 requests.
