i am facing a badblocks problem on my usb external drive i use usb cheap sata casing how can i check them on usb as smart(disk utility) is not working on usb drives
also what could be cause of bad sectors can cheap casing cause bad sectors i wonder ![]()

SMART data requires that the device reports it

i tried that on windows it show ok in short generic test
i run long soon after i backup all data http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD http://support.seagate.com/rightnow/..._Warranty.html i guess it work any other tools mrk may you recomend for windows or linux which are safe to use ![]()

no its not silly question but very right question its my fault i should Ans that before
i connected a cheap casing with USB and inside it i connect sata harddisk althoe it work perfectly before now on linux mint 12 i notice 2 times hanging and giving me error in Cli mode badblock occur thats make me worried ![]()
