Default module updates via mirror server (ERA)

Hi -

I'm having issues trying to get module updates via my Eset Remote Admin Server (v5.0.122.0) to Endpoint Security (v5.0.2126.0 32-bit/64-bit clients). Virus signature database updates work fine.

When I do a manual update (I push another profile to remote users who can receive updates via the internet when out of the office) I receive updated modules, but when I have similar settings on the mirror side (which is downloaded and mirrored on my ERA server), I can't get module updates for the life of me.

I have tried clearing the update cache via the server options/updates tab, and re-running the update with no success.

I appreciate any assistance provided.

Regards,

seg_fault

Hello,

new service release of ERA was released just yesterday.
Please install it and check described behavior.

You can download it here:
http://www.eset.com/download/business/detail/family/31/

This service release includes also fixes in update module.

Please let us know.

Thank you.

I Updated both server and console to v5.0.242.0 - same issue. When I went back through the setup process, I fixed an error I made in creation, and found another one.

I created the mirror information using eset for file servers v4.5.12005.0 (which is installend on my ERA server), and if I goto (from the advanced tree) update --> advanced update setup --> mirror --> advanced setup, enable "update program components", and click "choose components" the button does nothing (I expect a component list) -- could this be why I cannot access the correct program components to push to the location of my mirror?

I did create the the selection and mirror information using the eset configuration editor (ERA server), which should provide the correct information to clients (in my understanding anyway).

Hello,

OK I thought that by "module updates" you mean updates of our modules but apparently you mean PCU - Program component update.

The PCU wasn't used in business line of our products yet, that might be the reason why your list is empty.

If you use ESET File Security to create update mirror and PCU as well you might need to set username and password from Endpoint in order to be able to download all modules updates and PCUs into the mirror.

P.R.

P_R_,

I meant modules, not PCU - I must have misspoke somewhere (I'm just starting to migrate my clients from Kaspersky to Eset, so I'm a newbie to Eset method of updating - for that I apologize)

I had some module updates on a few of my clients last night, but I'm not quite sure what the most recent module updates are (e.g. AntiSpam yyyymmdd). Is there an area that I can determine this, either on Eset's website (haven't found one), or elsewhere?

I appreciate the assistance that has been provided.

Thanks,

Hello,

thank you for choosing our solution.

The module updates are fully automated they are updated along with virus signature database updates. So if your virus signature database is being updated the modules will be updated too.

We have a detailed explanation of our architecture in this KB article, under Detailed explanation:
http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page...ewlocale=en_US

Modules are not updated so often, only when we add some new features into them or fixes.

In case of any questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

P.R.

P.R.,

While the site linked does provide a (quite good) detailed listing of the update process, the site linked within it (that points to ESET Threat Center) shows only Virus Definition Updates (and contents of the updates), it doesn't list what the latest and greatest module updates are, and what they entail (summarized) - which is what I'd like to see as a customer in lieu of nothing, or X updated, with no indication of what was changed.

I compared a module list between two different machines (x32, x64 = EES v5.0.2126.0), and I came up with some issues concerning module updates. I'm all good (no difference) except for:

1. on x32 machines the latest Real Time file system protection module is 1007 (20111129), and on x64 machines the module is 1006 (20110921). Is that correct?

2. I can't get the anti spam modules to update on x32 machines, only on x64 when manual updates are done over the internet.

If you can provide any assistance, It would be appreciated, as always. I appreciate what you've provided so far.

Regards,

seg_fault

Hello,

yes there can be differences between 32bit and 64bit modules as some were needed only for one of the architectures so it is completely fine.

We do not have list published on website, there are more update server types (pre-release, release, deferred,...) and also modules may differ depending on architecture (32bit or 64bit) and may depend on type of product as well so the list would be really wide and incomprehensible.

The modules are being updated alongside with Virus signature database so there is no need to worry about them, unless you have an issue with our product, because fix could be in newer verison of some module.
