My laptop is indispensable for working anytime, anyplace. A tablet is what I browse and get social with. But for "real" work my antique XP desktop and keyboard are irreplaceable. I have a vintage keyboard attached to a laptop as well. I'm 100% with you when it comes to the touch pad!

At work I use an old IBM R40 (running Linux) because I don't want to throw away stuff.

I've started using a desktop recently at work. But, outside of work I have not used a desktop for 9 years.

I hate being confined to a single room where I can go outdoors and sit on the deck on a nice day or night having a few beers while I relax on a comfy lounge chair.

I use a destkop replacement laptop as you can see from the specs in my sig.
This laptop has always been at home but sometimes I take it to work to play during my night shifts. The reason I choose a laptop over a desktop is these days the laptops have very good performance and I like the idea that I can take it wherever I go

I have always used a desktop. A little less than a year ago I bought a BlackBerry PlayBook when they first slashed the price because I wanted to try out a tablet and not pay 400 to 600 dollars for any tablet. My needs are just for home use such as gaming, surfing, downloading, etc. I am not a power user. I also have a laptop, a netbook and a recently deceased 2nd desktop that my daughter used in her bedroom. I have found with the PlayBook I can sit on the couch, the deck or wherever and surf the net, play games, and watch TV(while using the PB), etc. I found that I don't use my desktop near as much as I used to, something that I thought could never happen. My daughter now uses her mother's laptop. Now gaming on a tablet, to me, is mediocre at best but still somewhat entertaining. My daughters both have ipod touches and use them all the time. The point I am trying to make is that the young people today are being brought up on touch devices that they can walk around with and do everything on them they want to. They don't want to be stuck in a corner with a desktop. When my desktop that I am typing this on dies(that I also built), I will get a powerful laptop. I probably will never own a desktop again. I will be buying two MS Surfaces when they become available in the coming months. I believe that the desktop will go the way of the VCR in the near future, something that I never thought could happen.

I have a laptop but only in addition to a desktop. It is nice to be able to take it with me and since it is very close to matching my desktop in the way it is configured, it makes a nice backup. I will never replace my desktop with a laptop though. It's not anywhere nearly as powerful.

Laptop - Portability but it's an easy target to theft, snatcher, holdaper, etc...also if you've got some very private things for personal use only like videos/pictures in it like scandal...secret plan to take over the world,
etc...then you're sorry if it goes to the hands of others, you'd be surprised if becomes viral and you can't trust even your close friends, and if it broke ain't easy to fix and are expensive to repair/replace parts.Desktop pc - Power, Power and more Power. Also, bigger is most of the time more better. Easy to upgrade, change parts, repair and transform. The only disadvantage it has of course you can't bring it along with you.

Yes, a dinky cheap little EeePC. It's my main desktop.
![]() Why? Because it works, it's easy to carry around, and it has a 6+ hour battery life. The last is especially important when you commute to classes. (The only regrettable thing about it is the tiny 10'' screen, which makes a lot of IDEs painful to use.) Last edited by Gullible Jones : October 1st, 2012 at 09:51 AM. |

Yes, because it's more like a PC but portable.
