how so?
i found it confusing although to be fair to the program i didnt give it much of a chance to be honest.
Easier than comodo you say.
Is it as strong.?
Does it pass stealth tests etc.?
Also does it run with avast ok.

Default Re: Windows 7 Firewall Control v. 5.0

you have to redefine your definition of "firewall"

you consider Comodo as a "firewall" - ofc something of it is a firewall! [1]

in direct comparison windows firewall and w7fc and comodo firewall are equal. and as others mentioned the windows firewall is already a secure one. added features by comodo, agnitum etc are already present in windows.

stealth tests are stupid waste of time. someone explained it here short ago why. anyhow - any stealth or unstealthed port says "here is something present - catch me."
there is only one possible answer for "none is here" - and no software/hardware can answer that.

avast itself is buggy - and i dont know what this question has to do with topic.
pong - which version of avast? free, av, is?
offtopic - it works (worked) perfectly with avast free.

[1] thats reason why results my matousec where always out of the question. firewalls like Look and stop always got bad recommendations because its a solely firewall - no more - no less.

You can disable "Application Detection Sound" in Settings.

Hi, I was wondering if the free version of this has adware or nagware to upgrade and if it does can those be shut off?

Also, since it is only controlling the built in Windows Firewall(I think) does that mean it is a clean uninstall just using add/remove programs if you try it but don't like it?

Thanks.

Free version hasn't "adware or nagware to upgrade".

1. "The Built-in Firewall is based on the same WFP (Windows Filtering Platform) as well. The both products work independently entirely. You can switch the Built-in Firewall ON or OFF at your option due to complete product independence."
You can use Windows 7 Firewall Control and Windows Firewall at same time; you don't need turn off the built-in Windows Firewall. They are compatible.
2. Yes, you can do "a clean uninstall" normally.

meanwhile 5.1 is present and 5.2 is pre.

anyone also experienced crashes with 5.2 pre on win7 x64?
x32 no crashes but some strange bugs concerning recognition of new programs - first prg is asked, second is denied without notification.

latest 5.1 beta (after final) works fine.

Did you tried the latest Beta v. 5.2.18.31?

It seems that version could fix your problem perhaps. I'm using the realesed v. 5.1.7.69 yet.

working fine here on Win 8 x 64.
in fact, i just bought it.
running version 5.12.18.33 here.

probably the best alternative to LnS on Win 8, since LnS won' t be developed anymore.

Can Standard Users (non Admin) still run while using it? If so, what is limited (maybe nothing??) Also, anyone using it with Sandboxie?

not sure, running as Admin with UAC on here.

it should work with Sandboxie.
Sphinx uses the Windows Filtering Platform and does not install any drivers.

there is even a portable version.
give the portable version a try and you'll get your answers soon enough.
---
by the way, i really think they should rename this product.

"Windows7 Firewall Control" is confusing, especially considering it works on pretty much all Windows OS.

and there is another product called Windows Firewall Control from another developer.

"Windows7 Firewall Control" was first on market than binsoft, so why should they step back?

it works an all Windows OS, if you download and install the right version, jeeze
On XP it has its own driver, XP dont have WFP
"windows firewall control" - i should not comment this software...

"Remote" -> remote to LAN-Clients if online.

latest changelog
Quote:
5.2.18.32
* Bug in ZoneAdviser (might prevent from normal the detection prompt appearance)

5.2.18.33
* Missed detection prompt (optionally the panel hanging) while detecting elevated applications if the panel is launched non-elevated.

5.2.19.34
* Mistaken zone upgrade on specific systems. Lan placeholder is inserted instead of a normal network adapter if the adapter is not in the connected state temporarily.

not sure exactly.
there's a portable Plus version you can download.

this way, you can try it without installing anything on your system.

to start the portable with windows you need to execute a task (task planer) with admin rights

also,

i noticed that Metro apps need all kind of strange zones settings to make them work.
so you have to be careful not to create huge holes in your firewall while trying to make all this work.

this was too complicated for me so i've just stopped using Metro apps and installed desktop apps like Thunderbird and Skype for desktop.

makes it more manageable for me without having to get into creating specific firewall rules.

the plus version lacks remote feature, but it seems it only works with other pcs in the LAN, and thats exactly what i wanted.
