Are there other imaging products that allow restoring to different hardware

Hey,

I'm looking into purchasing Acronis True Image workstation 9.1.3718 because of its Acronis Universal Restore Plugin.

I read that Acronis Universal Restore Plugin allows restoring an image of Windows XP Professional to computers with different hardware which is exactly what I want.

Now I read in the forums about the Acronis Universal Restore Plugin from the Rescue CD taking an extremely long time to restore, some people even said a day. This is not acceptable.

There is a previous post that discusses alternative products to Acronis True Image software such as Shadow Protect Desktop Edition and True Image for Windows etc...

It mainly discusses about imaging (backup and restore) but doesn't really discuss about restoring to computers with different hardware.

Is there alternate imaging software out there that does what Acronis Universal restore does which allows restoring an image to a computer with different hardware?

Before I puurchase a product I want to make sure I have the best and most reliable product for what I want to do!

not exactly an imageing software - but in way a competition for universal restore: Laplink "PC Mover"

But acronis is the fastest imaging software i know! universal restore didnt slow the restore process down. with acro trueimage i'm able to create or restore my c-drive (6GB used) in 5 minutes. let me know if you know a faster way!

When you were able to restore your c drive (6GB used) in 5 minutes did you use the Rescue Boot CD and did you choose the Universal Restore option?

If you did the above where did you have your image stored, external hard drive, on DVD?

Also, at the school I work at we have a Zen partition (Zenworks from Novell) which is a linux partition and then a C: partition on all the computers. When I make an image should I only make it with the C: Partition or should I include the Zen partition (linux partition) in the image as well?

I read some where that some one had an image from Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 stores on an external usb 2.0 hard drive and tried putting the image on a computer with different hardware, but the usb adpater on the older computer was usb 1.1. Also, they said there build was Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 but the build they were using for Acronis Universal Restore Workstation was 9.1.3534. When they tried restoring the image off the external usb 2.0 external hard drive on to the older computer (usb 1.1) with different hardware, they said it was going to take around a day to restore.

What was more likely the cause for the slow restore, the fact that the old computer had a usb 1.1 adapter and not a usb 2.0 adapter or the fact that the Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1.3718 and the Acronis Universal Restore Workstation 9.1.3534 didn't match in the build version?
