Where are the simplistic gui and options of ver 2.7?
MAKE A SIMPLER VERSION OF NOD 32 LIKE 2.7 WHICH IS: SIMPLE, FAST, LIGHTWEIGHT, PROGRAM NOT SYSTEM INTEGRATION, OFFERS FULL CUSTOMISATION (turn off whatever u want, without etc the stupid "turn of for 10 minutes") Stop the stupid trend of "suits" and all these nonsense.. And wtf? I want to have riskware, but even if I configure nod32 ver5 to "no cleanning" it doesnt let me choose to exlude it. And after this window disappears, I cant do anything; only a pop up window appears in the taskbar and I cant run the file. of course I can do it manually, but why not on the fly? Everything is possible:
- the program is easy to control, fast, leight on system resources - full customization is possible, particular protection modules can be disabled permanently (at the cost of loosing a protection layer) - suits are popular and bring additional layers of protection. Moreover, one can always choose between a pure antivirus and a suite. - it's possible to disable cleaning - it's possible to exclude files from detection |

What products for security do you recommend and use instead of Nod32? Do you use a FW? Do you use Sandbxie? Do you use a router? Do you use Emet? What o/s config are you on?

Not usefull post!!
If you havent noticed, the suggestion is obvious: Eset can add a lite version, just like the 2.7 ver, because there is no way, after these "suits", to fully revert back. |

ESET NOD32 Antivirus is the equivalent to v2 in terms the areas it protects (ie. the light version as you call it) while ESET Smart Security is a suite consisting of firewall, antispam and anti-theft which is light in terms of the impact on performance but "heavy" in terms of the number of protection modules.

After hearing all kinds of finger pointing, towards other software manufacturers, for v5's shortcomings (in particular, the external hard drive problem), I switched to Kaspersky Anti-Virus, about one month ago, and haven't looked back, since. Note: Up until that point, I was a loyal ESET customer, for as far back as I can remember. |

I have tried this and that too, but I always end up coming back to ESET, go figure. ESET provides the best in terms of performance and protection for my needs and includes all the features I like, and I hope it stays that way into the future as well ![]()

2.7 was my favorite version performance wise but I have tried all versions since. I was never disappointed with ESET and IMO it has a handsome GUI and it's very simple to navigate through and not cumbersome.
In over 13 years of computing there is only two or three apps that managed to destroy my OS and I clearly remember two of them, that was Drive Sentry and Kaspersky. I reimaged and never looked forward to any of there versions.. Of course Drive Sentry is now Drive History.

Hello,
The ESET NOD32 Antivirus user interface has a text mode, which is intended to make it more usable for customers who use screen-reading software. To use ESET NOD32 Antivirus' text interface, press Ctrl+G after opening the ESET user interface window. To make this option permanent, press F5 to open the Advanced Setup dialog, navigate to User Interface → Graphics in the left navigation pane, and de-select (uncheck) the Graphical user interface option in the right pane, then click on OK to commit the change. Perhaps that iteration of the interface will be more to your liking. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

agoretsky,
Big thanks for telling us about text mode. I just enabled it on five machines. Maybe that will keep egui from choking the life out of legacy machines. Like the original poster, I mourn the loss of v.2.7. It was nice to have something I could use as a kind of watchdog on low-resource, low-risk legacy machines. I also miss the v.2.7 command line scanner. I scheduled it in a batch file and got a daily report on the status of my machines; ecls.exe doesn't log any usable information. Minus a threat, v.2.7 just ran quietly for years at a time, I'd just read the logs I customized and otherwise didn't have to think about it until renewal time came around. This is just a trip down memory lane rather than an attempt to get "new" features. I don't expect there is a market for a "NOD32 Lite". Still, it was handy to be able to run one antivirus program on such extremes as a 256MB RAM NT 4.0 Server, a 96MB RAM Windows 2000 Professional machine and a 512MB RAM netbook (with lots of drivers) without having to dumb down the protection to practically meaningless levels. And, it worked great on selected modern equipment, too. |
