Default I must say one thing about Norton: great Live Chat customer service!

I built a PC last weekend and I wanted to transfer one of my three license subscriptions (second year in a row, free at newegg after rebate) from the old desktop to the new PC. A representative remoted most of the operation but at one point I had to chose a subscription to remove. I didn't notice any descriptions (may have been there though) so I just chose the first one. Sure enough that night I got a call from my son (I'd given him a heads up) and their copy was disabled. Back to chat the next morning! I explained everything and the representative re-activated it. He just had to entere the license number and it was good to go. The chats were instant although in both cases it stated a two minute wait but there really wasn't any.

Norton is decent for issues like this but when really technical stuff comes up, I find them (and PC Tools) slow and lacking.

I will say this: Hands down, AVG has given me the best experience as far as support goes. Not the fastest, but the best. I'm very happy I paid for AVG and I've been a user since 2006 and have little intention to stop using it now.

I agree. I've always had good experience with Norton live chat. Some of the help was extensive involving registry changes. Usually if you spend a lot of time online with them they will add 30 days to your subscription. I've had 60 days added so far this year

I have found them all slow and lacking, but most of us on this forum likely have far more experience than the majority of these support people. Overall though I have found Norton support to be the best I have encountered (I have never contacted AVG's so I am not disputing your experience).

My experience with customer support:

norton = great
bit-defender=great

avast=good

Panda=moderate ( late reply, after so many days)
avg=moderate

McAfee= bad ( always one reply, uninstall and re-install or install MBAM )

kaspersky= very bad, pathetic ( reply after a month and that too a useless one. I tested again almost 10 times to test its service and no improvement any time. Its great to be good in detection but dont forget customer care, majority of users paying for it requires support sometimes)

I meant McAfee keep telling me that I should install MBAM and scan. You can check their forum too. You will get this reply very often.

Not using Kaspersky at the moment but in the past I always found the guys at Kaspersky UK to be fast,knowledgeable and very courteous in dealing with any issues,used Norton once,not for a tech issue just a licence problem but they were 1st rate

i know it's an old thread, but norton deserves it. just ended a support chat session and they were fast (almost no waiting), professional and really generous. got 30 days extra to my license and partial refund, and i didn't even think of asking such a thing

kudos

I've only requested support twice in all these years (Security Software), one was with Panda and the other was with Emsisoft.

With Panda they never got to solve my issues not because they didn't want to but because they took too long to answer me and by the time they did i already uninstalled the software.

Emsisoft anwered my support requests pretty fast and worked with me immediately to solve the problems.

honestly not a huge fan of norton tech support. they are scripted and basically only want you to let them take control of the system to do their thing. otherwise they are not very helpful and i watched while a norton "tech" took control of a system set up for a "test" call. and the tech who's name was something honestly i can spell or prob pronounce right said hi my name is --- but you can cal me bob? why would i want to call you bob if thats not your name.. anyway... then he proceeded to start to UNINSTALL my jv16 registry cleaner without asking me. then uninstalled perfectdisk, then after a reboot told me i was using a "cracked non lic'ed version of windows and that is my problem" well duh... i was using a TRIAL and i was fully within the 30 day time frame since this was installed as a test i didnt use my lic key i left it as a trial. he linked me to the windows genuine page and said to buy a legit copy and that will solve my problem.. WHHAAATTT? LOL anyway i was not happy at all to say the least and had this been a real customer they would have gotten no where. i have tested them out a few times and have personally never had a great experience.

the ONLY worse (av wise) support i have ever had was testing iyogi when avast took them on. that was simply a nightmare words cant even begin to describe.
