Yahoo is making money from selling your Yahoo email address to spammers.

If you send email to anyone, there is a chance that the recipient will forward it to someone else and it will end up on a spam list. Often the spammers send email to sequential addresses so if you create an email such as "JohnDoe123@yahoo.com" it won't be long before you start seeing spam. Once your email address gets onto a spam list, it will be copied shared with many spammers. You can't stop them sending you spam. The best you can do is set an auto delete spam option if your provider offer it.
Problem is that the spam filters are usually set too aggressively and important emails get sent to the spam folder. For example, I recently received a call from a recruiter. We discussed a job opening and he sent me the job description via email. My provider's spam filter sent it directly to the spam folder. |

Yahoo Mail allows you to create email aliases, you can create them and when you start to get spam on that address erase it and get a new one. Never reveal your real email address, just the aliases.
