So I duped Microsoft into giving me the New Computer Upgrade $14.95, and I installed it today, Only to find out I had to remove Firstly My USB3 Driver, and then discover I'm forced to enter a password each time I log on
Next Avira is not yet fully compatible with Windows 8, and Will install, but wont scan!. Windows 8 does increase my Index score by 1 from 7.7 to 7.8 WOW! So much Whatever 1 point! not like it excited me However, I doubt I'll be using it in the near future, as I'm not going to buy some other AV just to run on this, I still have 2yrs of Avira remaining. Going off the look and feel of Windows 8 The look is Totally ****!, but it does feel a tad snappier, but then again it would do theres nothing in it!

Best to run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant first:

Windows 8 has native USB3 support which is probably why you had to remove the vendor driver you had. Are you sure about requiring a password? That should only be if you log on via Microsoft account if I remember correctly.

Is that support enough to allow installing from a bootable USB3 drive? USB3 installs onto SSD are blazing fast on 7, will be interesting to see if its even faster on 8.

Thanks Stapp However do you know how to find User Folders? i.e With windows 7 you just click start and then on your username, and All folders, Downloads, My Documents, My music, My Pictures, etc are right there, but where are they in Windows 8? I've looked everywhere. I heard you have to locate and pin them to the Start Screen is this right? The only way I could see them was to open Windows explorer, and locate them on the left hand panel, but the wierd thing is, with 7 you can choose to relocate them, and still have access via the Start Menu, I found with 8 if you choose a different location i.e D:/drive, they do move across, but totally vanish from view in Windows explorer, only acessable by opening your D:/drive manually and navigating to them. Damn awkwardness to say the least.

I rather drop $ 1500.00 on a mac then give MS $ 14.99 for windows 8.but I already have a late 2009 macbook with MT lion 10.8.2 and I love it.It is just like windows 7 that is done just right IMO.

Microsoft is scared. They're concerned that if they don't bribe you into windows 8 they'll never get you into the "It's intuitive you just have you bash your face against the screen" mindset. I believe I've said this on here before but it's like you're married to an outstandingly pretty girl (Windows 7) and Microsoft is scared they can't beat her so they say "Hey we'll give you this really cheap prostitute for only $14.95 " and when you take up the offer your old wife leaves you and now you're stuck with a cheap prostitute and aids.
Don't get aids, Don't get windows 8. P.S. It's a downgrade not an upgrade just saw the typo in your title.

They really should have kept refining Windows 7 and developed a separate OS for touch oriented devices.... Too late now...

Almost the same as Win7.... http://researchaholic.com/2012/08/16...rsonal-folder/ Edit... You can stop it asking for a password. Win8 has inbuilt virus scanning. Last edited by Brian K : October 28th, 2012 at 03:09 AM. |

Holding down the Windows Flag key and pressing X key can be very helpful in finding some familiar settings.

I have a security suite installed in Windows 7. If I install Windows Eight will my security suite be uninstalled because of the built in MSE of Windows Eight?

I highly doubt it, but I suggest that you uninstall it first before doing the upgrade and reinstall it later.

I Also found out that a Upgrade, and Full Version require a different product key
This isn't entirely correct, I downloaded the Full retail version, and the Upgrade version I got is non bootable, Howver my Upgrade Key worked, and Activated for the Full retail version ![]() Edit: by which I mean a clean install on a freshly reformatted drive
