How to Install Comodo Firewall

If you run into the problem again please let me know. I think it may be because it was installed over the previous version.

The issue is that without reinstalling it by following the advice I give in this post I can't rule it out with enough confidence to warrant creating a bug report.

Well, that was an adventure and an experience I'd rather not repeat.

Rather than install Revo and uninstall CIS I uninstalled with Advanced uninstaller. After uninstall Advanced cleared some register entries and folders. I then used the same method to uninstall Dragon, Geek Buddy and Trust Connect. Not a problem, I proceeded to reboot into safe mode and used the the utility to clean any remnants of the uninstalled Comodo products and rebooted to Windows. Things appeared to be fine, but my cursor was frozen. It wouldn't move with my bluetooth mouse or mouse pad. I had to hard shut down and booted into safe mode. The cursor was still frozen. Fortunately I had a Windows 7 install disk where after loading, the cursor was free and I was able to do a system restore to a point I created after uninstalling CIS 6 the first time with Advanced uninstaller. After rebooting into Windows the cursor was free and everything appeared to be working fine.

At that point, after a recent Windows 7 reinstallation along with numerous program that took some time, and some important work coming up, I took the safe route and installed MSE using Windows firewall. I also created a ATI boot CD which I failed to do, or could not find. I purchased ATI after the Windows reinstall. (does one need a mouse to use the ATI boot CD?)

Anyway, in a month or two once I have a little more free time and CIS 6 has had a chance to work some bugs out, I'll try again.

I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like Advanced Uninstaller probably removed something it shouldn't have.

I'm at least happy to hear that your computer is working correctly for now. When you're ready to try reinstalling let me know and hopefully things will go better that time.

Sounds like I got lucky this time. I upgraded to CIS 6 right over the top of the last version of CIS 5. No problems here. CIS 6 is running light, smooth and no trouble of any kind.

In fact, when I installed 6, it removed 5

Hi,
I was wondering if Comodo is updated more often than Private Firewall, and if that makes a big difference in firewall-only usage? (vs. antivirus, where you would want lots of updates)

I'm using PFW now, but it hasn't had an update since June 1. Any thoughts?

I don't think so. As I said previously I used Advanced uninstaller to remove CIS v6 after I installed it over the top. That got rid of the desktop image anomalies but I still had trouble with Kiosk mode.

It wasn't until the second time using Advanced uninstaller and after using the Comodo utility that I ran into problem. I still had mouse function to use the Comodo utility, it was after the reboot, it was lost.

I should be upgrading CS3 and Office 2007 to the latest versions soon. Before I do I'll probably do another clean install of Windows 7, do a system image and then reinstall CIS.

It's updated regularly enough. That said, a firewall really only needs to be updated for new features of if a vulnerability is found. Thus, infrequent updates doesn't necessarily mean that it is a bad firewall, although I have never used Private Firewall and thus cannot comment on its effectiveness.

Also, even the firewall portion of CIS will check all running applications against its cloud list of dangerous files. If found to be dangerous the file will be quarantined. Don't worry though, CIS can be run just fine along most antiviruses.
