Question will chkdsk be faster on the surface scan if i reduce partition size of the Drive?

will chkdsk be faster on the surface scan if i reduce partition size of the Drive?

I have a 1TB drive
it only has the Operating system on it.
I have other stuff on separate drives

I have had a few Macrium Reflect errors
Saying chkdisk/F needed

so i also ticked

"scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"

it took ages.

would 'reducing the partition size' help speed the "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" function up?

Cheers

Yes.

Normally your filesystem sits on one partition (ignoring raid and LVM type setups). Chkdsk works on a per partition basis, so reducing the size of the partition reduces the file system size which means less blocks to scan for a given partition.

Sweet

Thanks for the fast reply.

I'll partition it, to speed things up

I not sure why macrium reflect keeps failing.
the hdd is only a few months old.

It's always a faf to find the results of chkdsk.

Running chkdsk makes the backups run for a few weeks with no problems.

I might test with the western digital drive tools.
