Default Clone tool freezes

Hello everyone,

I recently ordered Acronis True Image 10 to clone data from my IDE Seagate Barrucuda ST3160812A (160GB) to my SATA Seagate Barrucuda ST3320620AS (320GB). The source drive contains two boot partitions (dual-boot XP and VISTA). After Acronis copies the first partition (XP partition), the entire computer locks up. I had to hard-restart my computer. Now, booting to XP causes a lock-up. However, I can boot to Vista. What's wrong? Is there a way around this?

Vincent

EDIT: I unplugged the power to the SATA drive and now Windows XP boots properly.

If cloning doesn't work, you could try creating a image of the entire disk (make sure the Disk # checkbox is checked) and then restoring that to the new drive.

I actually prefer this to cloning as it gives me a backup copy and I can restore as many times as necessary to get it right. Including restoring individual partitions later if only one got messed up.

Hello viche12345,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please create Acronis True Image Bootable CD using the latest build (4942) of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home, boot your computer from it and try to perform the clone procedure. Check chapter 10 "Creating Bootable Media" in the Acronis True Image 10.0 Home User's Guide to find the instructions on how to create Bootable CD.

After the disk cloning is finished you should unplug one of the hard drives prior to booting into Windows for the first time. The point is that keeping two identical hard drives (hard drives having identical digital signatures) connected at the same time is "unpleasant" for Windows and might cause a number of boot and\or drive letter assignment problems. After you boot into Windows from one of the hard drives at least once, please feel free to turn off the computer and connect another disk.

If the clone process still locks up, please create Acronis Report (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post. Please keep both hard drives connected while creating Acronis Report. Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

Remember that to get access to updates you should first register your software.

Thank you.
