Default Internet Safety

Do I need to unplug my computer's cable connection when I'm not using it?

Hi NeedtobeSafe

I don't think so, especialy if you have a firewall/router cause that would be seen as safe surfing anyway...

My father however...it seems that he unplugs everything lately

Or you can use the internet lock, like found in ZoneAlarm

No need to unplug the net, if you are using a software firewall like Outpost Pro and a router like 2Wire, and set-up your computer so it don't allow remote connection........

You have to unplug your computer during a thunder-storm to protect your computer against lightning, even when you have a router, unless you have a lightning-conductor on your roof of course.
I hope this helps.

Hi,

Even during a thunderstorm... most of your in house electronic should be on reliable powersurge protector that show you the voltage level (most of them range in about 300$ and UP ) I'm talking about good ones. 2 or 3 of these devices should be quite enough. Provided that you also have your house grounded for thunderstorm.

There is a solution to this that eliminates any concerns you may have over this, which i saw over on BBR not too long ago.

. . .

100% Security During Boot 4 Peanuts !

Hmmm...correct me if I'm wrong, but that was a solution to keep the modem shut down, until the PC had fully booted...to eliminated the concern of being connected to the net while the software firewall hadn't activated yet <and the reverse situation during shutdown>?

Not sure why didn't just buy a hardware firewall though
