I've been checking out an older version of Acronis, 7.0. I'm using WINXP SP2 home edition backing up to an external Western Digital 160GB USB drive. I've made several full image backups with no issues. I've been doing one a week.
So, today I try to do another full image backup. It gets to the screen where it's supposed to start the image and just sits there. The progress meter never starts. I tried rebooting, unplugging/plugging in the external drive, even re-installing ATI 7.0. The only difference I noticed is that this time WINXP assigned the external drive as "L" instead of drive "K" as it had done previously. I have no idea why it skipped K this time, I have nothing else plugged in. I was able to read from the drive no problem, even exploring previous images. Still when I tried doing a full image backup it would lock up at the final screen without doing anything. So, I went into XP and was able to re-assign the external drive to K, the same as when all the other backups were done. This time I was able to backup a full image. Even though I got the problem fixed, I'm stumped why ATI would not backup the image when the drive letter was "L" instead of "K." Why should it care about previous backup destinations? |

Hello JimmyD,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software. We are sorry for the delayed response. Please note that a possible reason for this issue is that Acronis Drivers do not operate properly with the external hard drive. This could be due to some third-party software that prevents Acronis True Image from working correctly. Therefore, please download the latest version of Acronis drivers for Acronis True Image 7.0 and install it with disabled logging. Please also note that Acronis True Image 7.0 is an old version of Acronis True Image and is not developed anymore. We recommend you to download and install the free trial version of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home to see how the software works on your computer. You can find the detailed instructions on how to use Acronis True Image 10.0 Home in the respective User's Guide. Thank you. -- Aleksandr Isakov
