My personal story:
I bought TI8 on an EBAY auction 6 months ago. The disk arrived and looked like the original disk in a sealed envelope. It had the serial number pre-printed on the CD which looked proffessionally silk-screened. When I finally got around to registering it, Acronis told me it was warez. What exactly makes it 'warez' anyway? Is it simply the fact that someone else 'guessed' my pre-printed serial number and registered before me? How can I tell if this CD is a fake reproduction? I want to be sure it was a pirate who ripped me off and not Acronis. Is there anything special about the original CD that I can look for to tell me it is a fake? Please advise. |

What about this? I've always bought stuff from Newegg, they rock. but how can Newegg be charging $31.50 and Acronis' Store be charging $49 for ATI9.0?Both are downloadable versions. Would they both have the same service and upgrade policies? BTW: What is the upgrade policy? Free upgrades for a year, etc? Or free within the same version number 9, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, Free......10.0 costs $? I can't find that info anywhere. Thanks. |

I got an email back from Customer Support and they said,
"Newegg is the official reseller of Acronis Software. They're purchasing very large amounts of Acronis products and able to set discounted prices. Acronis True Image 9.0 purchased at Newegg eligible for registration at the Acronis registration base available at the: You also will be able to download free minor updates for current version and will be able to upgrade your version to the new one with 40% discount. Customers purchased Acronis Software at Newegg also eligible for free e-mail technical support from Acronis support engineers." So Cool!.....Rock on Newegg.!! |

I saw this forum too late, I purchased from softwarediner.com. They ignored my request for refund. Appears on credit card statement as Turret LLC. Dispute opened with Chase.
Oh, and the version of ATI8 they sold me kept the CPU pegged at 100% after backup. ![]() |

I am concerned about the lead posting in this thread.
Some of my concerns are: 1. Acronis lists, e.g., PC Mall as a legit seller. Well I was just at the PC Mall web site and could not find Acronis at all. 2. What about well know vendors such as CDW and Newegg? How can we determine whether they are selling legit copies of True Image. 3. I found a number if vendors, such as ( atomicpark.com ) that list version 8, but not yet have version 9. Are those copies legit? I realize that most companies sell directly to distributors and really do not know which companies are directly selling to retail customers. Can Acronis provide a more complete list of legit sellers of version 9? |

it's been about 44 daze and no response to my posting from Acronis???
Looking at ( pricegraber.com ) I see 5 sites listed as selling TI 8 and 2 selling TI 9, so, obviously pricegrabber is incomplete. It would be useful for Acronis to supply an updated list of retail and online sellers at least once per month. Personally, I would interested only in the sellers of a full retail kit with the software on a CD-ROM. |

I have used both PriceGrabber.com and shopper.cnet.com as a starting place. These often have a lot of the same web sites listed. FYI, I have purchased thousands of dollars of stuff from amazon.com, buy.com, cdw.com, newegg.com, tigerdirect.com and zipzoomfly.com, and never had a problem. I won't name the "cheapies" that did give me problems.

I asked for a list of resellers from Acronis.
The merits of using each reseller are not the subject of this question. Who each of us is willing to buy from is a moot question until Acronis supplies us with an upto date list of resellers. |

Note the similarity of the wording of the Terms and Conditions in a lot of these sites. I would not be surprised if they are run by the same people.
Also note in the Software Diner site a reference to Terms and Conditions in the "Contact Us" but no Terms and Conditions are able to be found!!! "If its too good to be true then its probably not true" |

The posted list is still not complete:
1. What about Newegg, and others, that have been mentioned by other posters, 2. The list sadly lacks most major online vendors, e.g. buy.com, provantage.com, atomicpark.com, etc. |

It's not too hard to figure out IMHO. If you want to be 100% sure of your purchase, buy from the source - Acronis. They do sell the product. If you want to have other price comparisons, you have to take responsibility for your action of whom you select. First look at reputable sellers as selling improper copies of software would kill what they have worked so hard to build up. Ensure that whom you do business with will stand behind the sale. If you want third or fourth tier to just save money, well, you take your chances and pay your dues.
This is an issue between the purchaser and the seller company and how the buyer selects whom they will do business with. |

Unless a special deal is being offered, it rarely makes sense to buy directly from the software/hardware manufacturer. It is Acronis' responsibility to tell us where their products are sold. Only then would I choose where to buy. Not to mention that Acronis raised the issue of illegal sellers, so they have a responsibility to tell us why those are not legit and how to tell which are legit. I would also be concerned about the long term competitive viability of a company whose latest products are not widely available. |

Todd Martini of Alex's Coupons said:
"Every single one of the external links for Acronis on our site go to Regnow.com and nowhere else. Our reputation is extremely important to us and we go out of our way to avoid even the hint of impropriety." It looks like you need to talk to Acronis because neither Alex’s Coupons nor RegNow.com is listed in their list of authorized Acronis resellers. However, the RegNow.com website does say that it is a Digital River company and it is Digital River that handles the sales transactions for Acronis products. If I were a business owner, and if there were a list of authorized resellers of a product that I am selling, I would want to be on it! |
