Exclamation Still useing TDS-3?

How many of you have kept TDS installed,i kept it to start with as came with a great bunch of little appz, but as time passed,i now have a collection of those appz that don't need TDS to launch them.

So is it worth keeping??

Hi there!
Depends what you like to do with TDS and which applications you make it starting. Of course i keep it installed, for the many uses and exec protect, etc.

I got rid of it soon as Wayne said it was discontinued. I started using Sam Spade for the features I liked in TDS.

I ever downloaded the SamSpade desktop version which was never updated. But i do like that for email-header parsing among others.
With that version and onlline you can investigate websites etc too, lots of stuff.
www.samspade.org
For the Whois and trace etc i use either TDS or Port Explorer.
TDS has bunches of plugins and network features, killing processes, exec protection, checking and deleting unwanted autostart keys, you might have replaced the original with the AutoStartViewer, you might like to check files for corruption (CRC32 scan), mutexes, NTFS ADS streams and getting rid of them, maybe you added scripts for handy functions or use the speech part, and all the other utilities. I still check suspicious looking files or emails with it before going to other online file checkers.
There are so many functions more then just an occasional scan. The latter can still be usefull occasionally as lots of variants and patterns were covered, but careful with results; do always another check as it is now.

After they stopped updating the definitions, I started using a-squared.

However, I still scan my PC thoroughly with TDS-3 regularly. I'm thinking it's possible there are old trojans still floating around that TDS might identify that a-2 might miss. And I thought (though I might be mistaken) that TDS also had what could be called hueristics capabilities?? For a long time it was the best at identifying trojans, so I still keep it in my "back pocket".

It is still starting at every boot and is still running in the background with execution protection enabled, I'm using the network tools and some of them system analysis tests/reports quite often.

I still have it running, as long as i'm not running a scan it uses very little resources. I've no doubt there is some overlap between TDS-3 and some of the other programs i run but when it comes to security i'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. There are still plenty of older trojans out there and I keep the heuristics set on high for new stuff.

Mike

That's not an image I care to have running around my mind as I head for my bed.

It's belt and braces of course

i still use tds its still far better then most programs that are newely updated

mainly because tds covers unheard of trojans that dcs has in its data base

a 2mb file of definitions is huge

but i also use gav also discontuned want to hear something insaine the damn thing still picks up nastys that arnt even in the data base lol

because it has a strong hurstic unpacking and packing i can just google its findings on the net and see indeed if it is a nasty or a legit program gav still kick but isnt that sad
