A fix should be ready within the next 48 hours, if testing goes according to plan. :)

Does anyone know if NOD is similarly affected?

I hasn't been mentioned, but I think NOD isn't affected by this. I am not positive though. Perhaps you should ask in the NOD forum and get a confirmation from Happy Bytes or Marcos though.

I PM'd Marcos yesterday with a link to this thread. When I saw he was online with no response. :( Posted a link just now in the NOD forum.

To put it in a short conclusion: The guy is trying to explain that there is no proper Error handling ( should be done with a "break;" in the read loop after some condition check ) and that it will MAYBE read bytes till the 2nd argument fulfills the condition.

Is NOD affected by the same problem or not? There is a duplicate thread started by me in the NOD forum. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=100352

4.5 is NOT affected. That is the only really great KAV (until 6.0 which I am beta testing). Version 5 is junk. (What do you expect when a company tries to dumb down a product so that the totally clueless like it)?

They released an update on 29th Sept that detects such CAB files. So KAV is not that vulnerable now. And they'l release a program update ASAP.

A patch was issued today, with the sig updates, which converted KAV PRO 5.0.388 to version 5.0.390.

So the problem is presumably now solved.

The totally clueless included every one of us at one time. The average user needs a well protected system utilzing programs that are simple and easy to manage. Because with improperly protected systems they are a danger to all users on the net and perhaps Kaspersky recognizes this, which would be to their credit. After all these people are going to be on the net whether you like it or not. Besides I'm sure not everyone on the forum considers it to be dumbed down.

I have auto updates on but my version still remains 5.0.372. On the link you supplied it says the patch updates 5.0.372 to 5.0.375 . Does this fix Kavs flaw ?
