Question Online Scanners - Which do you find best??

Have Adaware, Spybot S&D, AntiVir-free (Vexira). Using ZA firewall.
Have also been using TrendMicro Housecall for online scanning.

Would really appreciate your recommendation which is the best free online scanner for virususes and/or trojans. If you could possibly give me some links that would be terrific.

Thanks while waiting for reply !!

I've used both eTrust and mks_vir. Both require the use of Internet Explorer.

i know you asked for online scanners, so ignore this if that's all you want there's also standalone scanners, just download them to your HD then scan like a normal resident scanner, there's no install so you can just delete the scanner afterwards if you want to. out of all of them, i think the one with the best detections is eScan, the down-side is that it only flags what it finds and wont remove anything.
http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

then there's Stinger, Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. i think it will only find and remove newer virii, but it's still very good.

there's also the avast! Virus Cleaner. you can read about it and download below.

What exactly are the advantages of using online scanners over ones which you download because when you use an online scanner are you not still having to download an application to do the scan?

i can tell you the disadvantages' of useing online scanners. with an online scanner you have to download an activex control which is then left on your computer, there maybe some which dont use activex, but i dont know them as appossed to a standalone, which you can use then delete. and you are also giving the site access to the whole of your computer.

Thumbs up Re: Online Scanners - Which do you find best??

For ease of installation, Trend Micro's Housecall. On my home computer, I have to jump through some major hoops to get Panda's & Symantec's controls to download. For that reason, I don't use Panda's or Symantec's online scanners. I was unlucky enough to clean up a coworker's work & home computers recently and Trend found many nasties and cleaned them up. Because her two computers were not locked down, the Panda & Symantec controls were easy to install. Symantec found nothing and Panda found a few items.

In my opinion, two thumbs up to Trend Micro's Housecall.
